Good afternoon! I am Leizelyn Ballon Barnedo, 35 years old, from the Philippines. You can call me teacher Lei. I am a Mathematics teacher at Sto. Domingo National High School, Sto. Domingo, Albay.

I am a graduate of Bicol University with a bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. In the same university, I also had my Certificate in College Teaching and earned my 30 units in Master of Arts in Mathematics Education.

Aside from being a Mathematics teacher, I am also a classroom adviser and Mathematics club adviser. As a classroom adviser and subject teacher, it is my duty and responsibility to manage classroom discipline and behavior by enforcing school rules and policies. I am also responsible in creating a positive and respectful classroom conducive to learning. As a Mathematics club adviser my task is to plan and initiate activities that will encourage students to love Math as well as to enjoy the subject outside the four corners of the classroom. Likewise, I am assigned to come up with intervention strategies and materials for those students who have difficulties in the subject. It is always my aspiration to encourage children to be in love with Math.

One of my skills is being competent in computer. Because of that, my department head assigned me to be a coach and trainer in e-Modulo Art Design Contest, a competition in Mathematical pattern and shapes utilizing computer. Luckily, my student trainee won 2^nd place in the Regional Competition, bringing pride to the school and the entire division. Likewise, I am a part of the Grade 8 Development Team of the Division of Albay that created and developed interactive games that will be utilized by the different schools in the entire division as part of intervention materials. Currently, we are crafting the Albay Numeracy Assessment Tool or the ALNAT that will be administered to all the students from grades 1-10 to assess the numeracy level of the students.

Speaking in front of so many people is also my cup of tea. In fact, I am an event host and being an event host, I can earn extra money. And so, I am enjoying and at the same time earning for my family. During the pandemic, no face-to-face classes were made and events rarely happened, I miss talking, I miss seeing happy faces of the people enjoying my jokes during events, but most specially, I miss the faces of students showing satisfaction of understanding the lesson. So, what I did, I gave free classes in Math, a sort of tutorial, to some students.

I am a poem writer too and I love joining poem writing competition. Sometimes I won, sometimes I did not. But even if I did not win, I still feel that I am a winner because I was able to express myself through the poem.

I believe in one of the Confucious teachings that says, “If you are planning for a year, sow rice, if you are planning for a decade, plant trees, if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people”. Our goals are determined by our actions which we should act upon. Education is vital for attaining our long-term goals that will lead to a significant success. I believe that we should be an instrument in the prosperity of our society. So, it is my goal to be that instrument.

I have been teaching for 11 years already and I am so honored and proud that my students have become successful in their chosen path. It is a fulfillment that I have been a part of their success. And I am still looking forward to journeying with my students, present and past, as we share our milestones and successes together.

Again, I am teacher Lei, and I would like to teach children from different races with diverse backgrounds and personalities; furthermore, I am looking forward for a new experience and greater opportunity that may contribute to my professional growth and stability of my family and country.
